Our Young Foodie

Like I had mentioned in Trey's 5 month post, our pediatrician had prompted us to start solids at 4 months. I was honestly a little shocked by how definite he sounded on needing to start as he is a very "go-with-the-flow" type doctor. But in thinking about how active Trey is and how right around 3 1/2 months he always seemed hungry in the evenings, even after nursing constantly (he was never completely satisfied in the evenings) I should have known, it was time for some real food!

So we went for it! We tried Earth's Best rice cereal first - and he loved it from the start.

Trey gets SO excited when he sees me pull out these brightly colored (BPA-Free) spoons!! He became an instant super star with them.

We did decide to wait for "real solids" until he was a bit older but when a bug hit the Beach Bum household last week we were *encouraged* by the doctor to go ahead and start with bananas to calm down Trey's little tummy.

Poor thing hadn't been eating much at all but as soon as he got that first taste of banana he was hooked!! We have a little monkey on our hands!

Trey absolutely loves his mesh teether. I read on a baby site to put frozen banana pieces in it and it works great! Perfect for his teething gums! My only question to all you moms out there: any tips on cleaning it? It's a disaster to clean!

We've also recently moved on to sweet potatoes - not as big of a hit as the bananas but he definitely likes them! I'm waiting 5-7 days between introducing each new food, which I think it a little longer than recommended. I'm just scared of food allergies.

I am making all of his foods (except for his rice cereal because I hear it's a pain to make and that babies need the iron in the store bought kind - so we use Earth's Best), but I have bought some of the Earth's Best jars to try out and just to have on hand for when we are out and about.

Now, I know you have all seen his little string bean legs... so my question is "where is all of this food going?"

I have a feeling someone is going to be just like their Daddy!

He is so sweet. I hated cleaning the mesh feeding bags. I could never get them completely clean - even in the dishwasher! Have you heard of Plum Organics? They make really great organic food for babies on the go. They are pouches with a little spout - no spoon needed, and you can find them at diapers.com.

He is so, so cute!! We've just put the mesh feeders in the dishwasher and they've come clean, but we haven't done bananas in them.

first, i love him. he's such a lil' ham!

ugh...those mesh teethers! we had one with aidan and, yes, it's a PITA to clean! it went into the dishwasher often. i think i also had a couple spares to rotate if the mesh liners were dirty.

introducing foods is the best...especially that first taste & the face that sometimes accompanies it. ;)
