Day 2: Tell Us About Your Blog

Day 2: Tell Us About Your Blog

Today Katie is asking us a few questions about our blogs.

What is the meaning behind your blog name?
Not a big secret here - I love hanging out at the beach and we live near the beach so Beach Bum and Baby (since I was pregnant when I started writing it) was a natural idea!

How long have you been blogging for? What made you start blogging?
I started blogging in October of 2008 on Lis Loves (my previous blog). I'm not really sure what started my desire to have my own other than I found All Things G & D while searching for decorating ideas and I was hooked. From D's blog I went on to read all sorts of other ones and from there Lis Loves was born.

What are your favorite things to blog about?
Trey. Baby Stuff. Trey. Ha!! And anything else random that is going on in my life. For me, blogging is a lot of an online journal to remember what was going on in my life at a particular time as well as meeting new friends and learning and sharing new products and ideas!

What is one tip that you would give a new blogger?
Oh easy peasy. PUH-LEASE make sure your blog is linked to your e-mail. There are few things worse in the blogging world than pouring your heart out in a reply to someone's comment only to have it go to noreply@blogger.com. My dear friend over at Sweet Simplicity has a fabulous tutorial on how to fix this here.

Day 1: Introduce Yourself

So, my posts are going to be weird today because (thanks to Mrs. EyeCanSee - LOVE her!) I have decided to participate in Katie's 30 day blog challenge! I'm just a few days late so I will be catching up today!

DAY 1: Introduce Yourself

Hi y'all! My name is Lis and I am a 30 year old SAHM to Baby Trey (13 months) and wife to my high school sweetheart, J.D.

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University (Go RAMS!) and then had enjoyed living in Northern VA for a few years with J.D. before we got married.

We wed in July of 2006, moved back to the beach in March of 2007, purchased our home in May of 2007 and found out we were expecting sweet baby Trey on Thanksgiving Eve of 2009.

I previously wrote a blog called "Lis Loves" but shut it down while I was pregnant and started up Beach Bum & Baby. And lucky me - Trey LOVES the beach! Phew!

I love: being with my family, friends, our puppies, going new places with Trey, the beach, crafts, pink & green, all things baby and kid related, the pool, reading, being silly, my iPhone, cupcakes & cake pops, iced coffee, sparkling wine, sephora, jammies, my slanket, haribo raspberries, iced tea, a clean house, being on time, candles, nice stationary and anything monogrammed.

I'm sure I'm leaving a million things off but I think you get the idea. I'm a girlie girl who really loves her family and friends and enjoys nothing more than sitting on the floor with Trey playing, reading and being a goof!

Anything else? Just ask! I'm an open book!

Wanna join in the fun? It's not too late! Go visit Katie's Blog!

iPhone Randoms: Target & The Mall

Ready for the worlds most random post?

Target finds:
I fell in love with this xhilaration dress - it was only $24.99 I plan on adding leggings as it is super short! (Notice that Trey only cares about the graham crackers. No love for Mama and her dress!)

Trey picked up this cute plaid top. When I found out we were having a boy I thought that playing dress up was going to be out. Ha!! Poor kid! I made him try on almost his whole fall wardrobe the other day. He was so sick of me by the end!

I also picked him up this fun Ghost Busters tee! LOVE it!

And the mall:

I have to take pictures of where I park or I will NEVER find my car. Let's not even talk about that one Christmas at Tysons Corner.

Texts with the hubs always entertain me - this is from last week.

Trey and I hate this sign. Two weeks in a row.

Do these people not realize the amount of work it takes to get ready for a mom date and make it there on time? Pshhh.

But that's ok because it has an AWESOME play area for the kids! And shopping. Lots of shopping! Whoops.

The "F" Word

Back in the day because I'm old now yo... my dear friend, M (Hi Doll!!!) and I decided that the word Fall was a bad word. We are beach babies through and through and the F-word is simply a prelude to cold, icky, nasty weather. I don't mind the cooler temps, the pumpkin spiced lattes, and heck I am a HUGE fan of Halloween, I even enjoy them.

It's just knowing that the type of cold where you can't even think about leaving the house unless it's absolutely necessary is right around the corner that bothers me. Gives me nightmares really.

And yes, I'm SURE those of you that live up north are laughing at me. It's ok. I'm a whimp. It's cool. No shame in mah game.

But this year, and probably JUST this year, I'm going to embrace this whole "f-word" with all that I've got. I'm sure that it has something to do with the fact that I'm excited to see Trey partake in all of the fun fall activities like the pumpkin patch, Hawl-o-scream, Boo at the Zooe, etc. and not sweating to death at the park, or worrying about the both of us being eaten alive if I accidentally forget the bug spray at home.

(Not that that has happened or anything... just don't look at our ankles... kay?)

So here I am putting my favorite pinned things out for the world to see as well as a statement:

Bring it F-word, I'm ready for you!

{Almost} Wordless Wednesday

Last Thursday was J.D.'s 30th Birthday (Happy Birthday Baby!!!!) and I decided to make Trey a fun shirt for when he came home from work!

Trey waits here everyday for J.D. to come home from work. He FREAKS out when he sees his car pull in the driveway. Watching it makes he heart melt every single time!!

And I will leave you with these ~ exactly one year prior in a onesie that I had made for J.D.'s first birthday as a father!

Ten on Tuesday

I'm linking up with the fabulous Roots and Rings for another edition of Ten on Tuesday!

1. What is your favorite brand of shoes?

I love any flip flop. My favorites right now are some recent buys - I seem to wear my Rainbows the most for everyday and my silver strappy Lilly McKims for when I'm trying to look "decent"!

2. How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes?
Oh, um, shoot. Should I know this?

3. How do you feel about freckles?
I think they are adorable! I don't have any but I always think that they are so cute on other people. This may be a grass is greener type thing?

4. I can count to ten in ___ languages.
Two. English and Spanish.

5. What is your favorite store-bought ice cream flavor?
Mayfield Party Cake Ice Cream. It has frosting in it. Need I say more?

6. Were you in ballet or gymnastics as a little girl?
I did gymnastics and I loved it! I still love watching it on TV for hours on end!

7. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?
Psssh. We don't even let Trey watch TV shows yet but I will pull up songs on You Tube sometimes and we dance around and sing. You know I'm going to say Elmo. Homeboy is baby crack.

8. What’s your bedtime?
I'm so bad, I stay up until around Midnight every single night. It's 11:36 right now and I have done absolutely nothing to prepare for tomorrow.

9. Do you have any jewelry that you wear every single day?
I wear my wedding band and engagement ring everyday. I have also gotten in the habit of wearing my two pandora bracelets and an old Tiffany bracelet almost every single day. They make me smile every time I look at them.

10. Who is the bug killer in your household?

Definitely not me. I'm sure no one is surprised at that! Ha!

Evacu-cation?

So, last week with the imposing threat of (the) hurricane that wasn't Irene the hubs and I packed up and headed to Richmond for a mini vacay. Well, sort of. It was a vacay for Trey and I and three solid days of studying and taking the hubs' last CPA exam. WOO HOO.

(Assuming he passed. Which we ALL pray that he did.)

Let's recap the evacu-cation, shall we?

Friday ~

9:30am: Pretend like you don't need to be home packing, cleaning, doing laundry and washing dishes to get on the road with a 1 year old. Hang out at Starbucks with this silly guy.

10:30am: Get home to put said silly guy down for a nap and start thinking "sh*t, sh*t, sh*t I have SO much to do!!"

12pm: Pack up every monogrammed LLBean/Lands End tote you own (some not pictured...) to the brim, as well as like 5 Whitney Caroline Designs bags. Try your darndest to keep your 1 year old out of those bags. DO NOT FORGET TREY'S MON-CHI-CHI (that already worn out looking sock monkey you see here that Trey mangles in his sleep). Or the twilight turtle... or anything else he might decide he NEEDS. As in, is going to freak the heck out if he doesn't have it NOW.

So yes, basically I packed everything we Trey owns. You never know when a tantrum may be around the corner. I need reinforcements.

12:30: Get gas (which takes forever, you would think armagedon was happening) and finally get on the road.

And then do this until about 5pm.

Yes. This trip usually takes less than 2 hours. And yes, we are screwed if an actual disaster heads our way y'all. Screwed.

Lots of book reading from the front seat, singing, and finally the Elmo Song, Elmo had Three Ducks, etc. over and over. And we were to our destination. A hotel attached to a mall. What could be better?

Thank goodness for Birthday gifts that I was "saving" for a "rainy" day.

9pm: Luckily for us, Trey went down super easy and I spent the night with these two friends. Ahhh candy and books. I have missed you both so badly!!! (Everyone needs a treat now and then!)

Saturday ~

Ha! Easy peasy.

The hubs studied his butt off. Literally like ALL DAY.

And Trey and I rode his bike ALL around the hotel. Over and over and over and over and over...

Stupid rain.

Sunday ~

Gorgeous morning! Coffee, milk and some play-time out by the pool!

Trey took an awesome nap and then we headed over to Whole Foods for lunch and the Children's Museum of Richmond for some fun!

They have an AMAZING Children's Museum there. We played with bubbles, made da-da a good luck sign in the art center, rode a huge train around, went to storytime, played in water, played with lots of other babies, went down slides! I don't know who had more fun Trey or myself!

Afterwards we came back to the hotel and Trey slept like a champ! Can someone explain to me how my already great sleeper of a baby sleeps EVEN better (I didn't know that was possible...) when we are traveling? So strange!!!) We finally had to wake him up to go out to dinner!

Monday ~

The hubs was off to take his test! He's awesome so I'm sure he rocked it!!!

Trey and I hit up the mall and got a lot of Fall shopping done! Only a few things left and I think Trey is 100% done. Sadly Mama is another story!!

After his nap we met back up with JD and went shopping in Carytown and met up with some long-time friends for a fun lunch outside.

And then we drove back - with a MUCH faster time. And approximately 1,204 less meltdowns.

Phew. I'm tired just thinking about it all!

I'm so thankful that I was able to come home to a house with power and no damage from the storm as I realize a lot of you are dealing with flooding, power outages (with babies! AHHH!), and damage to your homes. I hope that it's all on the mend asap!!

Now that life is slowly returning to "whatever normal is" I hope to be back to blogging, tweeting and snail mailing. None of which I have done too well or consistently over the past few months!!
