Baby Shower Gifts: "Oh that's a GREAT idea"

Baby shower season is upon us in the Beach Bum household!

I'm currently in the process of putting a basket together for a friend full of baby related goodies. I was having some shoppers block this morning while making a list so what did I do?

Why, turn to all of my fabulous Twitter friends of course!

And I have never doubted how awesome my Twitter friends are - but seriously y'all came out in full force today!!

After having to run out and get a few things when Trey was first born and later when he started teething - I'd like to put some "oh that's a GREAT idea" type things in with the shower gifts I'm working on. I remember having to run out and get Tylenol when Trey was first teething and he crying and screaming his head off, I'm sure my local Walgreens employees even remember that day he was SO loud! I'm trying to prevent other mom's from any similar experiences!

Here were their suggestions:

  • Baby Tylenol
  • Boogie Wipes
  • Mylicon Drops
  • Paci wipes
  • Face wipes
  • Gripe water
  • Mini-emergency kit for diaper bag (I actually have this in my bag!)
  • Thermometer
  • extra boogie-sucker
  • wash clothes
  • baby body wash
  • Sophie
  • Diaper cream (aquaphor and Bordeaux's were both recommended)
  • Extra nail clippers
  • cute paci leash/clip
  • extra bottle nipples (different stages as well)
  • orajel
  • disposable diaper bag dispenser (I LOVE this thing!)

What else? I know lots of my readers have had similar experience. So now I'm asking you:

What small (but important) items do you wish someone would have given you before you had your little one?

What a great gift idea. Any new mom would LOVE to get that.

After reading your list I forgot to mention... cuticle cutters work so much better than nail clippers to trim nails!

If you are looking for something cute to put everything in what about filling the Fisher Price Whale of a tub?

Best infant bath tub ever!

I use it as the "basket" for all of my baby shower gifts now!

Also, triple paste is amazing diaper rash cream too!

I love this!! As a non-mommy, sometimes I struggle putting together the perfect shower gift for moms to be. Thanks for the fabulous ideas :)

My favorite item to add to baby shower baskets is the Little Noses saline spray. Our pediatrician told us about it at our babies 5 day old visit, and we wouldn't have survived without it! The spray makes the nasal bulb work so much easier!

I think another alternative to a basket full of stuff is a huge pack of diapers and wipes...just because you need SO many and it's the worst to buy!

This is probably more of a "controversial" item, but 2 types of pacifiers?!?! We tried not to give in b/c of BFing but eventually did...

Or, there are so many good books that are good resources...Baby 411, Happiest Baby on the Block, What to Expect 1st Year, etc

for boys, pee pee tee pees are a fun novelty item

I have so many pregnant friends and since I don't have kids of my own, this is really helpful for me to put together a thoughtful gift. Love it!

Hi there! I just came across your blog, and I've been enjoying reading it! The item that my husband and I ended up running out and buying after our son was born was a mirror for our car so we could see how he was doing in his car seat. I was surprised no one had suggested that to us before he was born - I wouldn't want to go without it now!
