Say what?!
Oh yes, you heard me right.
Hungry yet?
I needed to take dinner and dessert (and some lemonade iced tea, and paper plates, plastic cups, etc...) to friend who is a new mom tonight and I recently came across the idea of desserts in mason jars while I was blog hopping. What a great idea! It's like a cross between a trifle and a dessert shooter. You can literally fill them with anything. And the best part - you can take a few bites (not like you wouldn't want to finish it, but just in case) and put the lid back on and pop it in the fridge for later!
I went back and forth between a chocolate dessert or strawberry shortcake, clearly the strawberry won. And yes, I made some extra for JD and I and it was amazing!! I sadly only had a little bit, trying to stay on that fit train!!
Here is how I did it:
I picked up these jars at A.C. Moore for $0.99 each. Make sure to sterilize them before use. And yes, I totally whipped out Trey's Dr. Brown's bottle sterilizer for it! But you can also just put the pieces in boiling water.
I whipped up some instant jello pudding in a cheesecake flavor. You can also use the ready-to-eat Philadelphia Cheesecake filling, which I actually prefer but my grocery store only had this so trying to avoid torturing the little one with more grocery shopping I figured this would do.
I made an easy strawberry puree with strawberry slices and some sugar.
Strawberry Puree
Pound cake (cut up into cubes)
Graham cracker crumbs
Cheesecake filling/pudding
Cool Whip
Fresh Strawberries
Repeat until full
Next time, I will use pastry bags to put the cool whip and pudding/filling in to make it look a little "cleaner" and easier to see the different layers.
What kind should I make next?
I'm also linking up with Cole @ All The Small Stuff for Tuesdays at the Table - you should head over and link up too! I always find tons of great recipes there!
